Blank Canvas

January 6th, 2010

Does the sight of a blank canvas make you jitter with the hope of all things that could be put on it?  Or does it make you quiver in your boots full of fear at the thought of making the right choice of what to do?

I thought about this question, this very afternoon while priming two canvases and a pot to give them new life.  I have no problem deciding with lightening speed what I would put on those canvases if they were for someone else’s walls, but mine.. oh my goodness, sometimes I think I love too many different looks and it’s hard to pick just one to go with.  I love shabby, color, simple, busy, all kind’s of art!  Right now I lean towards white, natural wood, dark wood and very crisp and clean but still with a bit of shabby charm mixed in.  Who knows what they will turn out like… it’s a mystery today, even to me!!

Arranging for Winter Scrapping

November 14th, 2009

We spent a great part of last Saturday re-arranging our family room.  Last year I had purchased the two tables and painted and stained them for the purpose of having one big scrap table.  It felt like Hannah was still too little for the huge table last year but this year it seemed perfect!  It took alot of moving and sorting and sweat but we got it arranged and Hannah is already busy scrapping!

It is hard to believe how much furniture lives in this room, but it still feels pretty spacious and not too crowded.  Now we can leave our mess and supplies out without having to clean up the dining room table for supper all the time!  Hannah loves scrapping and has made some pretty cool collages of all the things she loves.  We went to the dollar store yesterday for some new supplies :)  She is also a great believer in making your own pictures if you don’t have what you need!

You can see my desk in the corner, I used to take up alot more room but thought I could give away some space :)

Sunday Drive

June 8th, 2009

We hopped in Big Daddy’s truck yesterday and went for a Sunday Drive.  First stop was to get filled up on vittles at Subway.  Hannah loves Subway and eating in the restaurant is a big treat for her.. versus eating in the truck.  So being the fabulous parental units that we are we ate in the restaurant!

We headed west of town towards the mountains to see what we could see and to scout for acreages.  It had snowed on Saturday here and as you can see there is plenty of snow still in the Rocky Mountains!

We stopped at a playground at one of the Foothills towns to check and make sure the swings worked….All in all a great Sunday Drive! (Clearly I didn’t feel that doing one’s hair for a Sunday Drive was warranted)

Spectacular Pastel Portrait

June 3rd, 2009

Have you ever been wowed?  I was last night.  My long time friend Angie, came by to show me the finished portrait she did in pastel of my daughter.  I am sometimes taken aback at the talent she has, as she is very quiet about her art and skill.  Angie wanted to challenge herself with a blonde haired, lily white skinned subject and I had the perfect one!  I am absolutely grateful to have this portrait and it will be a lifelong treasure.  The hard part now will be choosing a frame to do it justice!  The detail is amazing and Angie has managed to capture Hannah’s personality in the eyes and tentative smile… love it!!

That Special Dress

April 8th, 2009

It must be Easter coming that inspired me to do this layout.  Actually that and the fact that I had started half of it some months ago and didn’t like the feel of it then, so I just tucked it in a folder for another day.  Last night I was getting a bunch of scraps ready for printing and ack I have 38 to print since I last printed in February, anyway I was doing that and ran across the half page with Hannah in her dress so immediately I thought of Irene Alexeeva’s kit Pretty in Pink and thought that would be perfect for this dress!  So off I went and took a picture of the dress which is in the keepsake box, and away I went.  I had an awful time finding just the right font for the title but I think it turned out well.

I am sure every mommy has that “special” outfit they love from babyhood.  This is my favorite dress up dress, but I have not scrapped my favorite outfit so I am sure that will have to be next for a companion page.  I wonder why some items stick out and others don’t?  There are a few things that mean alot to me, which is rare as I tend to throw/giveaway items without much reserve, but I guess that must have changed with motherhood!
